Chelmsford 2025 Paving Program

🚧 Chelmsford’s 2025 Street Paving Program Is Underway! Here’s What You Need to Know

If you’ve noticed construction signs popping up in your neighborhood, it’s all part of Chelmsford’s 2025 Street Paving Program! As a local real estate agent—and your neighbor—I like to keep residents informed about projects that can impact your daily life and your property’s curb appeal. Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s happening this paving season.

🛣️ What Kind of Work Is Being Done?

Depending on the condition of the road, the town uses one of three paving methods:

  • Microsealing: Think of this like a protective skincare routine for roads in decent shape. A thin seal coat made of water, asphalt emulsion, and fine aggregate helps preserve the pavement and extend its life.

  • Mill and Overlay: This method is perfect for roads that need a refresh. The top two inches of pavement are removed (milled), and a brand-new two-inch layer of asphalt is laid down over the existing base.

  • Pavement Reclamation: For roads in rougher condition, this is a full makeover. All existing pavement is ground up and mixed with the underlying materials to create a strong new base before fresh asphalt is added.

🗺️ Which Streets Are Included in 2025?

This year’s list of streets is extensive! Crews are working throughout town using all three methods depending on the needs of each roadway.

One change to note: Clarissa Road, originally scheduled for a mill and overlay, has been rescheduled for a future year and will instead receive full reclamation due to its worsening condition. To keep things on track, Reid Road has been added to this year’s mill and overlay schedule.
